Jamshedpur, April 7: The central government has chalked out several plans to make India digitally transcendent.
The postal department in the run for digitalization is planning to equip letter boxes with GPS (Global Positioning System), thereby enabling people to access the location of the letter and at what time it reached which place, when was the letter taken out, when did it reached the head post office and the current location of the letter.
The process of installing GPS has started at various post offices in Singhbhum. In the first phase the post boxes in urban area post offices will be benefited.
In Singhbhum currently there are 70 post offices and two head post offices (Bistupur and Chaibasa). “In every outer and inner side of the post box a bar code will be attached which will be of 12 digits.
To avail the benefit a consumer must download Post App and type the 12 digit bar code and instantly the person would be informed if the letter box was opened or not. If opened then at what time and day the box was opened will also be clued-up by the App,” said SP Singh, senior postmaster, Singhbhum.
In post offices situated in the rural areas, Postal workers will be given hand operating device. Through this device villagers can pay the electricity bill and several other works in the village itself.
“Postal department is being totally digitized and the post boxed is being connected to GPS. We have also got license for post bank and will start functioning with core bank system for which all post offices are being computerized,” said SP Singh.
Singh further informed that during regular intervals the head post office is crowded with students wanting to submit the forms for competition examinations. To overcome the ordeal, a separate counter will be made for the students so that they can easily submit the forms.
“ATM facility has been started in the post office apart from it cash transaction is also being done. To maintain safety and security at the post office CCTV cameras will also be installed,” said the senior postmaster.
