The year that was and the year that would be

When GP of Inspectors of CBDT/CBEC was upgraded to `4600/- in November 2009, the year 2010 at its beginning raised hopes for upgradation of GP of IPs. To some, upgradation of GP of IPs at par with analogous posts of other Central Govt. Department was a matter of mere formality. Later, skepticism grew as the proposal of the DOP was returned by MOF with unfavourable observation. Delay brought restlessness and caused filing of OA (though on individual capacity). The hope turned into despair as the IP cadre has now reached a stage of struggle. The year 2010 will be remembered in history as the year in which the DOP’s real attitude towards IP cadre was brought to the fore when it conspired in collusion with the MOF to oppose the much awaited upgradation of GP for IPs.

The year 2011 promises to be a year of struggle for IP cadre to achieve what is due to the cadre. It will be year to review what the IP cadre has achieved all these years despite its absolute loyalty to the Department and its senior officers.
